Diagnostic Assessment training for writing – year 3 (Course code: Y3-B)
The session aims to provide the opportunity to work with colleagues from other schools to standardise TA judgements and identify next steps in writing.
Course outcomes
• To standardise TA judgments in writing using a shared collection of writing
• To identify children’s ‘next steps’ to make progress in writing with colleagues
• Share subject knowledge and teaching approaches to meet identified needs in writing.
• Re-visit long-term planning of writing to meet pupils’ needs in writing, reduce the cognitive load and ensure skills and knowledge build over the year.
This training is for all Y3 teachers. Teachers will need to bring children’s writing work to discuss.

Course outcomes
To clarify understanding of age-related expectations in the teaching of word reading and comprehension in Y3.
To include:
• An overview of key knowledge and skills essential for reading comprehension
• Exploration of progression in the teaching of reading across the year group
• How to assess reading accurately
• Support for children who still need a focus on word reading

Moderation of Writing – Y3 (Course code: Y3-D)
Course outcomes
- This session will provide opportunities for moderation of writing with colleagues from schools from across the city.
Teachers will need to bring a range of pieces of writing to moderate through professional discussion with colleagues from other schools, in order to confirm judgements and next steps.

Standardisation of writing training – new to year 3 (Course code: Y3-A)
Course outcomes
To clarify understanding of age-related expectations at the end of the year group for writing
The session will also include a discussion of writing at greater depth
• To standardise TA judgments in writing using a shared collection of writing
• Explore greater depth in writing.
• Consider long-term planning of writing to meet pupils’ needs in writing, reduce the cognitive load and ensure skills and knowledge build over the year.
This training will be aimed at teachers new to the year group but can be attended by other teachers as a refresher.
